A residential suburb of Stockport which is closely linked to Disley, it’s neighbouring village, and yet having quite different in it’s style and mix of property. These include some of the very old original terraced cottages and old historical buildings dating back to the 1600’s but the sixties brought a period of development for bungalows, traditional semi-detached and detached housing suitable for all family living as well as retirement.
Located on the very edge of the Cheshire Plain it fringes the beginnings of the Peak District and up until the 1960’s was not much more than a rural farming community but with some links to the historical open cast mining areas of the neighbouring Middlewood and Poynton mines but has since become a popular residential area with a complete variety of housing types. Although now the major transport link is the A6 trunk road, historically much of the goods where transported via the Macclesfiled canal and the old canal basin is now a well used leisure feature and just to the west side of the village was the old railway link which is now a public trail known as the Middlewood Way.
Living here you combine convenience with accessibility to open countryside and local major centres.
High Lane has a population of around 5,900 and is located 5 miles (8km) south east of Stockport and is part of Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council.
